The Canvastown / Wakamarina valley is rich in gold mining history. From the old idyllic country pub -  Trout Hotel, to the gold mining trail you can follow it is rich in history.

The Wakamarina area has part of the Richmond ranges backing on to it filled with day walks, over night or multi day tramps.

It also has some great Canyoning in the area if that interests you as well.

The Canvastown / Wakamarina areas if also part of the Te Hoiere Catchment restoration Project as well, So  lot of work and changes are going in to this area to restore and preservie it.
